In 2008, the Directorate of Minority Welfare was formed when V. S. Achuthanandan was the CM of Kerala, under the General Administration Department, a vibrant government initiative functioning under Hon’ble. Chief Minister of Kerala State for the overall welfare and advancement of notified minority communities including Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, Sikhs, Jains, and Parsis.

The Directorate acts as the nodal agency for:

  1. Kerala State Commission for Minorities
  2. Kerala State Competent Authority
  3. Kerala State Minority Development Finance Corporation
  4. Kerala Madrassa Teachers' Welfare Fund Board
  5. Coaching Centre for Minority Youth

The Directorate of Minority Welfare also implementing both Central and State schemes and projects intended for uplifting the minority communities in the state.

Social Empowerment is the guiding principle of the Directorate. Accordingly, the paramount objective of the Directorate is the overall welfare and advancement of minority communities in the state. To this end, the Directorate plans, implements, and oversees schemes and programs conducive to provide opportunities for minority communities in all spheres of life and work.

The directorate also provides 15 different minority welfare scholarships to the eligible students in the minority communities including Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, Sikhs, Jains, and Parsis. follow this link to know the "eligibility details of the 15 minority welfare scholarships."

  2. ITC Fee Reimbursement (ITCF)
  3. CA/ICWA CMA /CS Scholarship(IWCS)
  4. Civil Service Fee Reimbursement(CSFR)
  5. Prof.Joseph Mundassery Scholarship Award(PJMS)
  6. Mother Teresa Scholarship(MTS)
  7. APJ Abdul Kalaam Scholarship(APJAK)
  8. Urdu Scholarship(URDU)

Kerala State Commission for Minorities

The government of Kerala has constituted Kerala State Commission for Minorities through the Kerala State Commission for Minorities Ordinance, 2013, promulgated by the Governor of Kerala. Under Section 3 of the ordinance, the Government appointed Chairman Members and one Member Secretary/Chief Executive officer. Kerala State Minorities Act 2014, came into force on 15th May 2013.

The Commission was constituted for the comprehensive educational advancement, welfare, protection & empowerment of Minorities in the state.

The Kerala State Minorities Development Finance Corporation (KSMDFC) Ltd. Is a Non-Banking Financial Company registered under the Companies Act, 1956 under the administrative control of the General Administration (Minority Welfare) Department, Government of Kerala, to promote economic and developmental activities for the benefit of the members of notified Minority communities such as Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains & Parsis. It is a State Channelizing Agency of National Minorities Development & Finance Corporation (NMDFC), a Central Government initiative under the Ministry of Minority Affairs, New Delhi.
