Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has announced ₹ 600 crore in relief aid to about five lakh farmersfarmers. The assistance is being provided to farmers whose 3.10 lakh hectares of crops were destroyed due to the cyclone in Tamil Nadu.

The assistance will be credited directly to the farmers' bank accounts from January 7, he said in an official statement.

Palaniswami said 3,10,589.63 hectares of agricultural and horticultural crops were affected by Nivar and Burevi cyclones in Tamil Nadu, during November-December last year.

He added that the storm had created a huge financial burden for those who had spent large sums on agriculture.
