New Delhi: India will have to face the third wave if the spread of Covid-19 intensifies, says AIIMS Director Dr. Randeep Guleria. The country's healthcare system needs to be improved first and foremost. He added that night curfew and weekend lockdowns would not help reduce Covid-19 cases.

Three main things need to be done. These include improving hospital infrastructure, urgently reducing the number of Covid-19 cases, and accelerating the supply of vaccines. Covid-19's potential for expansion must be crushed. Randeep Guleria said the number of Covid-19 cases is likely to go down if people's contact is reduced.

As it adversely affects the livelihood of the people, it is up to the government to decide on the implementation of lockdown in the country as a whole and locally. In an interview with India Today, Gularia said that daily wage people should be taken into consideration when making such decisions.
