The British government has decided to issue a coin with the face of Mahatma Gandhi on it

The Royal Mint Advisory Committee has reportedly issued a coin to commemorate the Indian freedom fighter. The move comes amid growing interest in recognizing the contributions of blacks, other minorities and people of Asian descent.

British Finance Minister Rishi Sunak has reportedly decided to honour ethnic and minority personalities with coins. He said in an email statement from the UK Treasury that he had written to the Royal Mint Advisory Board asking them to respect personalities in minority communities.

The UK Treasury said in a statement that it had decided to issue a coin with Gandhi's face on it.
