Kerala’s efforts in containing the pandemic substantial: Chief Minister Thiruvananthapuram, April 03: Kerala Chief Minister, Shri Pinarayi Vijayan today said that the State has been successful in controlling the Pandemic outbreak to a large extent and the fall in the number of fresh Covid-19 cases is an endorsement of the Government’s efforts. “Kerala’s performance in containing the pandemic is appreciable but we should realise the gravity of the situation and should not be complacent. The fight would continue.” It may be recalled that Kerala reported its first Coronavirus case on January 30, in a student who had returned back from Wuhan in China.

During his daily briefing on the Covid-19 situation in the State, the Chief Minister disclosed that steps have been taken to increase the number tests being conducted. “Currently we are carrying out the test when there are 4-5 symptoms in a person but from now on, even if there are only 1-2 symptoms, we will conduct the test. The rapid test kits will also be used to do more tests. However, those who test negative using the rapid test kit would still have to continue under observation. It is possible that they may test positive at a later stage.”

The CM also announced the formation of a 17-member task force to come out with recommendations on a phased return to normalcy after the end of the lockdown period. The task force consisting of eminent persons would be headed by the former Chief Secretary, K M Abraham, IAS Rtd. as its convenor. The Prime Minister had yesterday invited suggestions from the State Governments on how to address the post lockdown period.

09 Coronavirus cases confirmed in Kerala today, total 251 under treatment Nine fresh cases of Covid-19 infection were reported in the State today. Giving details, the Chief Minister, Shri Shri Pinarayi Vijayan said that seven new cases are from Kasargod district and one each from Thrissur and Kannur districts. Of the confirmed 295 cases so far, 251 are currently under treatment in various hospitals across Kerala.

14 patients have recovered today including a nurse who got the infection while attending to a coronavirus patient. Five patients from Kannur district, three from Kasargod district, two each from Idukki and Kozhikode districts, and one each from Pathanamthitta and Kottayam districts are those who recovered.

In Kottayam, an old couple who had multiple issues and were in serious condition were discharged from the hospital today. “We see this as an achievement and a testimony to our healthcare system. I would like to place on record our appreciation for all the health workers involved in their treatment and care”, he added.

As on today, 1,69,997 persons are under observation - 1,69,291 at home and 706 at hospitals throughout Kerala. 154 persons were admitted to hospitals today. 9,139 samples were sent for testing and 8,126 results were negative.

Out of the 295 confirmed, 206 patients are those who came from abroad, seven foreign nationals (tourists) and 78 who got through primary contact with infected persons. Three persons who returned from the Tablighi Jamaat at Nizamuddin are currently under observation.

State announces financial assistance through Welfare Funds

The Kerala Government has announced financial assistance for the members of various Welfare Funds and Boards. This financial assistance package is mainly to help the thousands of their members tide over this lockdown period when they have no work or a regular income.

CM appeals for contributions to Disaster Relief Fund

Kerala Chief Minister, Shri Pinarayi Vijayan today appealed to people in the State to contribute generously to the Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund. “Kerala is badly affected by this pandemic and we have a huge challenge to overcome this situation. A collective effort would only get us through this difficult time. People should rise to the occasion and use this juncture to showcase our unity, commitment and determination to face any adversity.” He added that there has been a good response and gave the assurance that the funds collected under CMDRF will be used only for Coronavirus related activities. A separate account under CMDRF will be maintained for this purpose and the Finance Ministry would soon issue a special GO in this regard.
