Prithviraj Sukumaran was born at Thiruvananthapuram to actors Sukumaran and Mallika Sukumaran on 16 October 1982. He is an Indian film actor, director, producer, playback singer, and distributor known for his works primarily in the Malayalam cinema. He has appeared in more than 100 films in a variety of roles in the Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi and Telugu language films and has won one time National Film Award, Kerala State Film Awards for three times, one Tamil Nadu State Film Awards and one Filmfare Awards South.

Prithviraj was first spotted by director Fazil. in 2002 director Ranjith cast him for the romantic-drama Nandanam, his acting debut, a commercial success. In the following years he made-up himself as a successful leading actor in the Malayalam film industry. He was acted in the coming-of-age romance film Classmates, which became the highest-grossing Malayalam film ever. He won the Kerala State Film Award for the Best Actor for his performances in Vaasthavam at the age of 24, becoming the youngest recipient who received the award. He also performed as a playback singer in his movie Puthiya Mukham in 2009, the movie boosted up his stardom to a higher position. Later he won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor again in 2012 for the movie Ayalum Njanum Thammil which is a medical drama and the biographical film Celluloid.

In 2010, he began co-producing films with the historical film Urumi for the production house August Cinema, which he also starred in. He co-produced and starred in the social drama Indian Rupee in 2011, for this movie he received the Kerala State Film Award for Best Film and National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Malayalam. He won the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Villain in 2014 for his performance in the film Kaaviya Thalaivan. In 2015 the movie Ennu Ninte Moideen and in 2017 horror thriller Ezra are both amongst the top ten highest-grossing Malayalam films of all time. He started Prithviraj Productions an independent production house after ended his partnership with August Cinema in 2017, debuting with the science fiction film 9 (nine) in 2019. He made his debut in directorial with Lucifer which became the highest-grossing Malayalam film ever, released in 2019.
